Crime Prevention

Crime Prevention officers work to promote positive police-community relationships, to identify crime risks, to educate residents and businesses on how to reduce crime risk and to establish and work with neighborhood crime watch clubs.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Police, fire and EMS vehicles were on display and there were lots of fun activities for kids and families like balloon animals and face painting.

A few years ago we launched a program for dog walkers called WRPD Dog Walker Watch. The program is designed to add more ears and eyes for WRPD to identify and report suspicious behavior as neighbors walk around the community on daily dog walks. Check back for dates.
