Waste is a significant environmental challenge that affects our planet in many ways. From overflowing landfills to pollution in our oceans, the impact is significant, affecting the environment, our health, and our economy and contributes to climate change, loss of biodiversity, and the depletion of natural resources. Did you know that the United States generates about 4.9 pounds of waste per person every day? That adds up to over 295 million tons of waste each year! Fortunately, through making changes in our daily lives we can make a positive impact on the environment. Check out these upcoming events and resources to help you reduce your waste footprint.

Large Item Pick-up Days

The City of Wheat Ridge is offering a free service to assist residents in disposing of large items that don't fit in typical garbage cans. Registration is required, and will cap at 270 registrants. 

The 2023 Large Item Pick-up Program is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 and Saturday, May 20. Read more about acceptable items and fill out the registration form here.

Leave No Trace Spotlight Event - June 15-17

Wheat Ridge has been selected as one of twenty Leave No Trace Spotlight locations in the country this year. Leave No Trace's new spotlight program is a multi-day event to bring attention to community conservation and provide education. Wheat Ridge, in conjunction with the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team, will host a spotlight event from June 15-17 featuring a variety of programs including stewardship projects and other engagement opportunities. More information on scheduling and events will be available soon, and in the meantime you can check out the Leave No Trace website and learn more about The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace and take the #LeaveNoTrash pledge.

TLC Clean Up Days

Localworks and the Wheat Ridge Police Department are offering TLC Clean Up Days again this year, with the goal of bringing neighbors together to strengthen the community and keep our city clean and safe. The 2023 dates are:

June 17 - Trinity Church of Wheat Ridge

July 22 - Applewood Baptist Church (sponsored by Xcel Energy)

August 26 - Wheat Ridge United Methodist Church

September 16 - St. James Episcopal Church
