Mandatory Dog Licensing

As of July 20, 2013, Foothills Animal Shelter has taken over the administration of the pet licensing program from Jefferson County Animal Control.

You can register your dog online, by mail or in person.

Advantages

Having your dog licensed will reduce the number of unwanted dogs by encouraging owners to spay and neuter their pets. Licensing will ensure dogs have their rabies shots and enable local animal control officers to track dangerous and aggressive dogs.

Strict Enforcement

The Wheat Ridge Police Department's Community Services Officers are strictly enforcing the licensing program. If, while out with your dog, you are contacted by a Community Services Officer and do not have current dog license tags, you will receive a summons.

If you receive a summons, you will be required to appear in court and you could be charged with a fine.

Cost

The annual license fee for a spayed/neutered and unaltered dogs is $20.
