Zoning Code

The Zoning and Development Code includes standards regarding the use and development of land in the City of Wheat Ridge. The zoning code is Chapter 26 within the Code of Laws. Recent changes to the zoning code are available as ordinances are approved by City Council.

Zoning Permit

There are some types of projects which are exempt from local building codes, but still require a zoning permit to allow Zoning Division staff to review for compliance with the Zoning and Development Code.  These types of projects are:
  • Trash or dumpster enclosures
  • Painted signs (if not being reviewed as part of a larger sign permit package)
  • Window/door signs (if not being reviewed as part of a larger sign permit package)
  • Outdoor recreational equipment (greater than 120 square feet in size and more or less permanent in nature)
