1. I have property in the custody of the police department. How do I get it back?

If the property is being held as evidence in a criminal case that is being prosecuted, it can only be released with the approval of the district attorney’s office. If the item is not needed for the criminal case, the detective assigned the case must approve its release.
If approved, the release of property is done by appointment only by calling 303-235-2952. Valid identification will be required at the time the property is released. Depending on the circumstance, some proof of ownership may be required. The evidence technicians will let you know if this is necessary for the property you are inquiring about.
