Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Projects

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) currently has two projects in Wheat Ridge. You can sign up to receive traffic alerts about CDOT projects by visiting their website. 

I-70 & Harlan Street Bridge Replacement & Interchange Safety Improvements: 

Work Schedule:

  • Daytime working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Nighttime working hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Motorists can expect single lane closures on Harlan Street and W. 48th Avenue with occasional full closures of the intersection and under the Harlan bridge.
  • I-70 will have shifts in traffic with no full daytime closures.
  • Motorists can expect single and double lane closures at night and/or for immediate road maintenance when required.

Overnight Traffic Shift & On-Ramp Closure
 
Westbound I-70 at Ward Rd/CO 72 (Exit 266)
 
7 p.m. Sunday, May 12 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 13

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Lobato Construction will implement a westbound I-70 traffic shift at Ward Road (Exit 266) during overnight hours on Sunday, May 12. During this shift, the on ramp to westbound I-70 will be fully closed, with detour routes in place, and various lane closures will be taken on westbound I-70. The closures will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 and last until approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, May 13. The closures are necessary while crews move temporary barrier, restripe the lanes, and realign westbound I-70 traffic into its final configuration.

Traffic Impacts & Detour Route
Sunday, May 12 to Monday, May 13 - overnight I-70 closures - Ward Road/CO 72 on ramp to westbound I-70 & various lane closures 

  • Starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 and lasting until approx. 6 a.m. on Monday, May 13, the Ward Road/CO 72 (Exit 266) on ramp to westbound I-70 will be closed, with detour routes in place
  • Various lane closures will also be taken on westbound I-70 within the project limits from 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 13
  • The closures are necessary while crews implement a westbound I-70 traffic shift north onto the new bridge structure
  • Once implemented, westbound I-70 traffic will be in its final alignment
  • The recommended detour route during the ramp closure is: south on Ward Rd to W. 44th Ave., south on Youngfield St, and west to W. 40th Ave. to Clear Creek Drive to enter westbound I-70 at Exit 264 (Clear Creek Dr/32nd Ave) - please refer to the map below for details
  • The detour will add approx. 2 miles and 5 minutes to travel times
  • Other detour routes do exist
  • Motorists can expect delays and alternate routes are advised
  • Signs, message boards and construction devices will be present to alert the public to the closures and alternate routes
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change

Work includes moving temporary barrier, restriping the lanes, and realigning traffic on westbound I-70 at Ward Road.
