Electronic Permit Submittal

The City of Wheat Ridge does not allow work to begin without a permit.

Do not start work until your permit has been issued via email or at a drop location.


Building permit applications may be submitted electronically using the appropriate form listed below. Permits may also be issued electronically, subject to the following requirements:

Requirements for contractors to request and receive electronic permits:

  1. In order to have a permit issued, contractors must have current license/registration and insurance complying with the State of Colorado statutes and City of Wheat Ridge Municipal Code. Submit the online form for the specific type of project you are performing. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL PERMIT APPLICATIONS.
  2. Electronic permit applications will be reviewed for completeness and eligibility, and if complete, will be processed before the end of the next business day. If the application cannot be approved for any reason the applicant will be notified via email or phone call.
  3. Payment must be completed. As of May 1, 2024 electronic payment forms are no longer accepted and payment must occur over the phone, in-person, by mail, or (in some situations) online. Staff will provide specific payment instructions for your application type. Upon completion of payment, the permit is issued with an inspection card and sent to applicant via email. 
  4. For projects requiring plan review, the plan review fee must be paid at the time of application.

Listed below are different applications form based on different scopes of work. Please use the appropriate form for your specific scope of work. Selecting the incorrect form or not providing all required information on the form will cause a delay in the processing time. Application Forms - Permits Requiring Review:

These permit types require extended review, typically ranging from 2 to 6 weeks depending on permit type. Prior to submitting please review permit submittal requirements.

Application Forms - Unique Situations:

These permit types are reserved for unique situations, revisions, or large project types.

  • Deferred Submittal - Use this form to submit a deferred submittal for a previously approved active permit.
  • Master Plan Submittal - Not all projects qualify for master plan review. Use this form only at the direction of the CBO.
  • New Townhome Unit - Not all projects qualify for this permit type. Use this form only at the direction of the CBO.  
  • Permit Revision - Use this form to submit revisions for previously approved active permits.
  • Site Work Permit - Not all projects qualify for site work permits. Use this form only at the direction of the CBO or Planning Division case manager. This permit is for horizontal work on a property site including paving, grading, and utility installation to prepare for development.
